In Gob We Trust

Not to be confused with Will Arnett’s classic character Gob (pronounced Jobe) from TV’s “Arrested Development,” Gob (pronounced Gob) are a long-running pop punk band from Burnaby, British Columbia. Despite a loyal following in their native land and connections to larger acts who managed to break through in America (their former bassist joined Avril’s band; their current singer/guitar player does time in Sum 41), stateside success has thus far eluded the band. Perhaps its because they never ended up signed to Fat or Epitaph or Vagrant where they likely would have cultivated a larger fan base in America.
Gob have amassed a solid heap of material over the last 10 years, having made records for both both major labels and indies, evolving their pop punk sound into more straightforward rock territory without sacrificing any of the urgency their punk roots allow. Tom, who also plays guitar, does most of the singing, but Theo, who also plays guitar, gets to growl on a song or two as well. And when Gob plays live they do that cool move where they throw their guitars around their back and catch them like the cock rockers used to do. The band’s fifth LP, “Muertos Vivos,” is out now, and is definitely worth a listen. You can check out a song from it below, plus a few tracks from some of their older releases.
