Hansel, But No Gretel

All of Matt Hansel’s recent paintings are named after hard rock songs, which makes sense since his images tend to focus on the themes that draw teenagers to rock & roll to begin with: isolation, angst, drugs, sex. As such, most of his work focuses on loner long-haired misfits, the kind of kids who find their sanity in music.

Hansel’s subjects are portrayed lost in hazy thought –- daydreaming, helpless and lonely. He blends photorealism and surrealism in a style that reminds us of folks like Eric White and Jonathan Weiner. You can check out more of his work on his website, or click on the thumbnails below.
