Divya, Not Dubya

Divya Srinivasan first came to our attention with the release of Sufjan Stevens’ “Illinois” album, for which she did the artwork, and for which she won a PLUG Award for Album Art/Packaging. Not too shabby for a college history major who got her start in art by drawing comics for the University of Texas’ newspaper. But it wasn’t until she landed a gig as an animator on Richard Linklater’s “Waking Life” that her career really took off. From there she animated a gorgeous music video for the band Spoon, and later, Zero7.
Not content to just be an animator, Divya has also been creating quiet, moody illustrations for the New Yorker for the past several years. She has also worked with They Might Be Giants, The Apes, and MTV2’s wonderfully subversive “Wonder Showzen” program.
