Lennon Is the New Hanks

John Lennon is no stranger to the cineplex. A quick check of his filmography turns up more roles than a Las Vegas craps table. Granted, most of these “roles” are Lennon playing himself, but it’s still impressive that twenty-five years after his assassination, he still has enough box office mojo to headline a film (try that Liberace!). His latest role is in “The U.S. vs. John Lennon,” a documentary which focuses on his post-Beatles, anti-war politics, in particular his opposition to then-Prez tricky Dick Nixon.

More impressive, this latest film isn’t even the first posthumously released theatrical documentary about his life. 1988’s “Imagine: John Lennon” told the story of Lennon’s life through never before seen archival footage and was a nostalgic eulogy for one of our most beloved cultural icons.
