Selections from the Vault: The Letter “B”

We thought it’d be fun to dig into the record vault here at YuppiePunk World HQ and post a couple of selections from a random letter of the alphabet. This edition: The letter “B.” We decided against a few popular artists (Beatles, Beach Boys, Black Flag), a few lesser-known faves (Best Kissers in the World, Dan Bern) and a few artists likely to register high on the groan scale (Bad English, Bright Eyes). But hopefully you’ll still like some of what we selected:
Bad Religion – “Modern Man”
Pathetic example of Earth’s organic heritage.
Eef Barzelay – “Ballad of Bitter Honey”
You try and name drop Ludacris and Nelly into such a sad song.
Bash & Pop – “Friday Night (Is Killing Me)”
Title track from Tommy Stinson’s first post-Replacements project.
Beck – “Lost Cause”
“Sea Change” may just be the best breakup record of all-time.
Belle & Sebastian – “The Chalet Lines”
This song is so sad its almost hard to listen to.
Big Drill Car – “Take Away”
Weird name, great Cheap Trick-inspired tune from these early ’90s SoCal faves.
Bouncing Souls – “Quick Chek Girl”
Boy meets girl. Boy and girl go out. Girl disappears. Boy writes song.
Bracket – “Trailer Park”
If Green Day sounded just a hair more like the Beach Boys…
Billy Bragg – “Accident Waiting to Happen”
Who cares if the guitar’s slightly out of tune, this is a world class kiss-off tune.
Edie Brickell & New Bohemians – “Me By the Sea”
Simple words, a simple melody and a simply great tune!
