Say Cheese: A Pair of Notable Photographers

Photographer Frank Bevin began the Everending Polaroid Project in 2001 in hopes of documenting his life through his photos. The idea: Take at least one Polaroid per day. Why Polaroids? It was the only kind of camera he knew how to work. Five years in, it is amazing to watch the seasons change along with the themes of the photos as the days, weeks and months tick by. Blevin has also expanded the project to include not just the photo itself, but the surrounding white Polaroid border which he also adorns with the image’s name, date and anything else he deems appropriate.

Ross Halfin is one of our favorite rock & roll photographers. He is also famously difficult to work with, but in some weird, charming way that doesn’t seem to dissuade magazine editors and band managers from hiring him time and again. Because of this, he has photographed virtually every important hard rock band ever. And not only does he excel at live photography, he is equally adept at studio portraits. Mostly, he just has a way of capturing the essence of a band or band member in a single frame. His images drip sex, blood, whiskey, and guitars –- in other words, rock & roll.
