The YuppiePunk | Aperture Music Podcast
Welcome to the inaugural YuppiePunk | Aperture Music Podcast. It’s actually kind of amazing we figured out how to post one of these goddamn things. But don’t worry, we didn’t go and muck it up by blah, blah, blah-ing all over it –- our podcast is chatter-free.
The playlist was put together by our friends at Aperture Music, the most bitchin’ music supervisors in the biz. They’ve placed great songs in lots of movies you love: “The 40 Year-Old Virgin,” “There’s Something About Mary,” “Donnie Darko,” and tons more. Peep their sexy website for more info about what they’ve done and what they’re working on.
The songs in the podcast are available via ala carte download below, or you can subscribe to the (hopefully) monthly podcast by hitting the RSS feed at the bottom of the post. Thanks for listening, and please leave us a comment or send us an email if we fucked this up somehow. Hell, leave us one if we didn’t manage to fuck this up!
Drive-by Truckers – “Where The Devil Don’t Stay”
This riff is so heavy it makes us want to get into a bar fight.
The Autumn Defense – “Written In The Snow”
John Stiratt of Wilco is in this band, and this is one of our favorite albums of the past few years. It has a very 70’s Emmitt Rhodes / Paul McCartney vibe.
The Concretes – “Fiction”
Just because they had a song in a Target commercial doesn’t mean they suck.
The Spinto Band – “Oh Mandy”
Strangely, this song is not about Mandy Moore. But it should be.
The Weepies – “World Spins Madly On”
This song reminds us of Neil Finn, and that is never a bad thing.
Jet -”Hey Kids”
We’re not sure if this song was ever released, or why the band opted not to include it on their album. But the song is proof that Aussies can have anti-war songs too.
Erin McKeown – “Delicate December”
On the off chance you have a young daughter, we’re betting this one would likley rock her to sleep.
Wolf Parade – “You Are A Runner And I Am My Father’s Son”
If you have “Wolf” in your band name, chances are the indie kids love you. Look for some Wolf Mother and some Howlin’ Wolf in an upcoming podcast…
Chromeo – “Needy Girl”
Believe it or not, this song was recorded in 2004, not 1984. And bonus points for the kickass name.
Goldspot – “Rewind”
A great Los Angeles band who are just starting to get a lot of attention.
Clearlake – “Getting Light Outside”
This song has an unbelievable drum sound.
MC Solaar – “La Vie est Belle
We went through a French hip-hop phase a while ago, but this song remains in current rotation. We have no idea what he’s saying, but he sure sounds smart (yet arrogant).
Marjorie Fair – “Empty Room”
This is a cool band from the Silverlake neighborhood in Los Angeles. Hurry up and buy this already…
Low – “Silver Rider”
Another song from the “rocking your daughter to sleep” playlist.
The Subways – “Mary”
A song about a girl named Mary, go figure.
