Nirvana: Better Than Poison

Kurt Cobain’s “Journals” isn’t a great book, but it is an interesting read, as it provides unique, personal insight into the head of a tragic, conflicted artist. Cobain was an incredibly opinionated fellow, and in his journals he lets it all hang out. He frequently seems to take a stance for the pure enjoyment of taking a stance, not because he genuinely believes everything he is writing. He also seems plenty interested in being a rock star, even if he thought all of the rock star pomp was bullshit. Reluctant rock star or not, Cobain’s success was calculated.
Here at YuppiePunk World HQ, “Journals” has taken up residence in the bathroom, which seems to be the ideal place to consume the book, in short (or, sadly, long) bursts. It’s surprisingly light-hearted; Cobain may have been serious, but he also had a good sense of humor.
Like this passage, which totally made us smile. Probably because both statements are undoubtedly true:
After all the hype and oogling over us this past year I’ve come to two conclusions:
1: We’ve made a way better commercial record than Poison.
2: There are quadruple the amount of bad rock journalists than there are bad rock bands.
We wonder if Bret Michaels is working on a “Journals,” although if it’s anything like Rikki Rockett’s first film, it will only make us miss Nirvana more.

yah. ill have to agree. Nirvana did make better records than Poison because they were a better band than Poison. it makes me sad that ill never get to see Nirvana play live, i was only 4 when Kurt died … if only i was born in an earlier time … maybe 1970 …
