Get Found!
Two similar and equally interesting found organizations will be bringing their latest and greatest finds to a city near you this summer. First, there’s a pair of tours from the folks at Found Magazine who will have West Coast dates for the first ever Dirty Found tour, as well as a lengthy jaunt from founder Davy Rothbart, who will be hitting the road in support of his just released book of short stories titled “The Lone Surfer of Montana, Kansas.” But Davy won’t just be reading from his new book, he and his brother will also be sharing some of their all-time favorite finds. And they encourage you to bring some finds of your own. For those not familiar with Found Magazine, it is truly fascinating. It is comprised solely of notes, photographs, shopping lists, etc. found and submitted by their loyal readers. And trying to figure out the stories behind the finds is nearly as much fun as the finds themselves. See a list of all the upcoming Found events here.
Also coming to a town near you is the non-profit arts group known as the FFF, the Found Footage Festival, a touring compilation of the weirdest shit ever captured on tape. The organization’s curators have been trolling thrift stores, diving in dumpsters, and raiding video duplication houses for years in hopes of putting together the ultimate experience in found video. And they’ve succeeded. Think celebrity exercise videos, fast food training films, cheesy infomercials and anything and everything in between. You can preview some of their festival on their website. And you can see a list of their upcoming screenings here.
