But For the Grace of Pod

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we know we’re like the last website in the world to figure out that podcasts are cool. Not that we have our own to offer up or anything, but we have found several that we think are the cat’s pajamas (cat’s ipod?). And does anyone else find it hard to stomach that Adam Curry, the big-haired VJ / worst thing to happen to “Headbanger’s Ball” ever, would resurface to shape the face of the web (he’s the podfather, ya’ll)? Anyway, do like Adam Curry and download some of these podcasts, lest you may become Riki Rachtman.

Morning Sedition: This is a fiber-filled two hour political podcast which the minions at YuppiePunk World HQ have been known to chew at all day while sorting through the massive amounts of mail and money delivered daily. You may be familiar with the broadcast in its native habitat, the radio, as part of the Air America Radio Network. We like to play this one really loud so that the entire neighborhood knows we are lefty-commie-pinkos.

Music Exchange: Steve Lamacq, a.k.a. Lammo, knows more about music than you do. This too-short show, which seems to air whenever Lammo and Nic Harcourt feel like it, will give you a slow associate’s degree in music.

Le Show: Listening to Le Show can make you feel like you’re listening to a more political, slower-moving “Simpsons” episode, since Le Show’s host, Harry Shearer, provides many of the voices on that show. Le Show is a weekly, hour-long discussion and performance on the worlds of media, politics, sports and show business, leavened with an eclectic mix of mysterious music. Plus, which other member of Spinal Tap could you possibly trust with your political ideology?

KEXP’s In-Studio Performances: This listener-supported Seattle radio station’s live performances blend great local artists with (mostly) indie acts from around the world.

The Dawn and Drew Show: D&D are an ex-gutter punk couple from Wisconsin and their filthy reality-show-for-your-ears is one of the most popular podcasts on the web. Listening to their show is exactly like sitting in our friend’s hair salon while everyone discusses their favorite gay porn mag or whether or not that guy actually stuck his entire head all the way inside that girl’s vagina.

Video Game News Radio: VGNR, a.k.a., Undead from Cleveland, is a completely low-fi DIY affair. They are the Jay, Jay, and Silent Bob of Podcasting and their weekly eargasm makes for some excellent brain candy. You get the latest video game news, talk about the movies they saw over the weekend, the games they played (or couldn’t install), plus, they play the worst listener-supplied music we’ve ever heard. All while giggling and swearing a lot.
