The Dude of All Trades
Jeff Bridges isn’t just a four-time Academy Award nominee, he’s also a world class photographer. Most folks know Mr. Bridges excellent acting in films like “The Door in the Floor,” “Seabiscuit” and of course as the Dude in the Coen brothers classic “The Big Lebowski,” but few are aware of his similiar abilities as a black and white photographer. He takes photos with a Wide-Lux camera, a panning, still camera with a 28mm lens that pans nearly 180 degrees (In fact, if you run really fast you can be in the image twice — see the “Fabulous Baker Boys” shot below). The resulting Wide-Lux images are really cool — panoramic views that capture several times the width of what a standard 35mm shot does. Plus, most of photos are from the various movie sets he’s worked on, which means plenty of images featuring your favorite movie star or director. Or better yet, the various behind-the-scenes personnel who are the beating heart of the film business. The Dude has recently released a book of his photographs called, strangely enough, “Pictures by Jeff Bridges,” which according to the book’s intro, grew out of the informal photo albums he would gift to cast and crew upon a film’s completion. For more info on the terrific photos of Jeff Bridges, check out his website or the Rose Gallery which represents him. And here are some of his magical shots from some memorable films:
– “The Fisher King”
– “Texasville”
– “Seabiscuit”
– “Fearless”
– “Fabulous Baker Boys”
– “Door in the Floor“

One of his photos was used as the New York Film Festival poster:

Definitely cool photos. I love the comedy/tragedy one of John Turturro. That guy rules.
